Sculptural and richly patterned, this ceramic vase/ candlestick was hand-painted at the Keraluc workshop in Quimper, Brittany by André L’Helguen (1935–2017) during the 1960s. The stacked baluster silhouette is ringed with raised bands and beaded borders, decorated in deep green, inky blue, ochre, and ivory with stylised florals and folkloric medallions. The surface retains a soft sheen with time-softened outlines and minor surface wear consistent with age. Signed under the base.
André L’Helguen was a Breton ceramist who worked throughout his career at the faïencerie Keraluc in Quimper. This workshop, founded in 1948 became known for uniting regional Breton decorative motifs with a modern sensibility, appealing to both collectors of studio ceramics and admirers of post-war European design.
A similar candlestick by the same artist is available separately, and the two pieces would make a particularly striking and harmonious pair when displayed together. Place it on a mantel, console, dining table, or bookshelf as a graphic focal point, either holding a taper candle or standing alone as a sculptural accent. Its earthy palette and confident form pair naturally with wood, stone, and linen, while the lively brushwork and rhythmic silhouette sit easily alongside contemporary art. Displayed alone or with its companion piece, it brings warmth, texture, and a folk-inspired decorative note that still feels expressive and fresh today.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
