This charming 1970s fiber art wall hanging depicts a peaceful harbor scene with small sailboats moored in front of a cluster of simple waterfront buildings. Made on a coarse, natural-fiber woven ground, it combines flat woven patterns with applied rope and yarn, creating a lovely variety of textures and raised details. The boats are particularly appealing, with their softly curved hulls, fine cord rigging and beautifully layered construction. The palette is gentle and earthy, blending sandy beige, muted sage green, soft ocher and charcoal gray. A narrow rod runs through the folded upper edge, with a central wire hanger for easy wall mounting. Some of the glued rope details have become loose over time and may lift further, so the piece should be handled gently to preserve its delicate artisanal decoration.
There is something wonderfully peaceful about this little harbor, with its still boats, simple architecture and sun-washed colors. The warmth of the natural fibers and the expressive craftsmanship give the piece a distinctive, earthy character, with a lovely bohemian spirit. It would be lovely in a seaside vacation home, perhaps above a wooden bench in an entryway, in a relaxed sitting room or in a bedroom with pale linens and natural materials. Its soft palette and tactile quality would also make it a beautiful addition to a contemporary interior, softening clean lines with warmth, texture and the individuality of handmade work.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
