This vintage mirror, dating from the 1970s and designed in the Rococo taste, has a tall, curving silhouette inspired by 18th-century Louis XV cartouche mirrors, with an asymmetrical outline framed by scrolling foliage, shell-like flourishes and small floral details. The frame was originally gilded and was later painted in a distressed white finish, with areas of gold showing through at the raised edges and worn points. This layered surface gives the ornament more depth and a softer, gently aged appearance.
The mirror plate is clear overall, with a few small age-related spots and light scratches that do not interfere with its use. The paper backing to the reverse is torn and would benefit from being replaced, although this is not visible once the mirror is hung.
Its generous proportions give it enough presence to stand on its own while still being easy to place. It would work particularly well in a bedroom, bathroom or dressing room, where the pale finish can help brighten the space and the flowing Rococo curves add a decorative, feminine note.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
