This petite three-drawer rattan commode, French, likely 1970s, is clad in closely laid reeded cane in a pale honey tone with softly rounded waterfall corners. The front is accented with an applied bamboo motif that offers quiet relief against the linear ground. The carcass is constructed in wood with a plywood back panel, a practical feature typical of mid-century atelier production that keeps the piece light and easy to move. It rests on short block feet and is finished with a smooth rattan-wrapped top. All three drawers glide easily and provide reliable storage (even though the key has been lost) making the piece as convenient in daily use as it is decorative. A few small scattered losses to the rattan, a discreet restoration to the top, and some edge marks, visible in the photos.
Charming in scale, the commode brings warmth and texture to a bedroom, nursery, or guest room without visual weight. It works well as a bedside chest or compact dresser and pairs beautifully with linen, sisal, and woven lighting. Styled with ceramics or a straw-framed mirror, it enhances interiors with relaxed, holiday-house spirit.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
