This vintage gilt-metal mirror, probably Spanish and dating from the 1970s, has a rectangular mirror plate surrounded by rows of individually shaped, flame-like leaves. The overlapping metal elements create a bold, radiating frame with a distinctly sculptural quality, while a twisted border neatly defines the central glass. The gilded finish has mellowed beautifully with age, developing subtle variations in tone while remaining in very good overall condition. The slightly clouded mirror plate softens the reflection and sits naturally with the warm, aged gilding, while remaining clear enough for practical use. Together, the layered metalwork and softened surfaces give the mirror plenty of presence and texture, with a bold silhouette that makes it a natural focal point.

It would work particularly well above a console in an entryway or over a mantel in a living room, where its strong shape could bring warmth and sculptural interest to the wall. It could also become part of a layered wall composition, mixed with sunburst or gilt mirrors and framed paintings to create a rich, collected rhythm, with the mirror acting as a sculptural punctuation point.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
