19th Century bistro Boule club display case

SKU: 6645

US$1,363
This rare display case dates from the 19th Century. It is beautifully carved with much detail including the frog and foliage on the cornice. Used to display the structure of a Lyonnaise boules club. Boules is similar to petanque - a sport enjoyed by young and old across France. This particular club was called the Grenouillards - or the frogs. Some enamel letters are missing.
The glass door opens with a key and there is green fabric backing to the inside. This would be a lovely piece to display a wine list or menu in a restaurant, or a family tree.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
