A superb petite bust of a child, finely carved in Carrara marble, dating from the 19th century. Unsigned and in very good condition.
With its softly rounded cheeks, delicate features, and beautifully sculpted curls, this charming portrait has a gentle, contemplative presence. The serene expression and pale marble surface lend the piece a classical quality, subtly evoking the innocence of a cherub while retaining the individuality of a naturalistic child’s portrait.
The bust is raised on an integral matching marble socle, giving it an elegant, balanced silhouette. Graceful in scale and quietly expressive, it would make a beautiful accent on a mantel, console, writing desk, or bookshelf. It would also be particularly lovely in a bedroom or nursery, where its calm, tender character brings softness and refinement to the space.
