A 19th century drop-leaf table in warm-toned mahogany with a mellow honeyed glow. The rectangular top is flanked by two hinged leaves with rounded corners above a single frieze drawer on one side. Beneath the top, shaped wooden supports pull out and unfold to hold the leaves securely when extended. Below, a turned baluster column rises from four splayed legs ending in cast brass lion’s paw sabots on small casters. The surface shows a gentle timeworn sheen with light marks and a faint age crack to the top, while the brass retains a pleasing patina.
The compact drop-leaf format offered adaptable service in salons, drawing rooms, or bedrooms. Set on casters, the table could easily be moved for writing, tea service, or displaying a lamp.
Its intimate scale makes it effortless to place. Use it behind a settee as a small sofa table, open the leaves for an impromptu breakfast for two, or let it anchor an entry with a gilded mirror and a vase of seasonal branches. The mellow wood lends warmth and quiet authenticity.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
