19th-century French children's sled w/ gilded iron & painted wood 31½"

Dating from the end of the nineteenth century, a delightful gilded metal children's sleigh. The seat and footrest are wood and painted black like the handle bar. The iron bars forming the base are finished with escargot swirls.

Originally painted red, traces of the original paint can be seen through the gilded coat. A piece that instantly brings out the child in all of us and captures a spirit of adventure from life in the late 1800s in France.
