Bright and engaging, this 19th-century faience plate is hand painted with a bold stylized floral bouquet on a soft white ground. The broad well and gently lobed rim are outlined with a brushed crimson edge, while the palette mixes crimson, green, yellow, and touches of blue. The surface shows a pleasing network of glaze crackle, and there are several small rim chips and minor wear to the painted edge that add to its authentic charm.
Tin-glazed wares like this were produced across France in the 18th and 19th centuries, valued for their opaque white glaze that enhanced colorful hand-painted decoration. The floral bouquet and scrolling leaves reflect motifs developed in the faience centers of eastern France such as Saint Clément and Strasbourg, reinterpreted in the 1800s in a simpler, more provincial style for everyday use and cheerful domestic display.
This decorative plate adds a lively touch of color and authentic country charm to a kitchen or dining room. It displays beautifully hung within a plate wall, lined along a dresser or plate rack, or set on a stand amid open shelving, where its hand-painted floral design brings warmth and cheerful character to everyday surroundings.
