19th-Century French Green-Glazed Terracotta Olive Jar from Tornac - 20"

A charming French olive jar in green-glazed terracotta, dating from the 19th century and likely produced in Tornac, in the Gard region of southern France, renowned for its distinctive green-glazed pottery. The generously rounded body rises to a broad rolled rim flanked by two loop handles, creating a balanced and timeless silhouette. The rich green glaze displays beautiful tonal variations and subtle runs from the firing process, while the interior is finished in a warm honey-brown glaze, providing a sealed surface for the storage of olives, oil, and other provisions.

Originally intended for everyday household use, jars of this type were produced throughout Provence and Languedoc for preserving food and storing pantry staples.
