A 19th century French commode in the Louis XV taste, likely from Provence, crafted in walnut and presenting a graceful serpentine façade with shaped drawer fronts and a scalloped apron. It rests on cabriole legs terminating in stylized hoof feet, offering a provincial interpretation of the classic Louis XV model. The warm tones of the walnut, ranging from honey to chestnut, are complemented by cast bronze handles and escutcheons with subtle rocaille detailing. The single-board top reflects the character of aged timber, with stable natural fissures and a historic surface mark, while the three drawers open smoothly. Locks are present but without a key. One drawer shows evidence of an old, well-executed repair.
The commode remains sturdy and sound. This versatile chest brings a warm, timeless presence to an interior, whether placed in an entry beneath a gilt mirror, in a bedroom as a dresser with a pair of lamps, or in a living room as a console with a curated tray of glassware. It harmonizes effortlessly with both classic and contemporary settings, adding texture, depth, and authenticity to layered interiors.
