This delightful and large terracotta walnut oil jar dates from the nineteenth century, France. It is skillfully adorned with a traditional textured vertical ribbing design resembling that of a walnut. There are three horizontal loop handles carrying similar textured ribbing on the surface.
Upon close inspection in photos, one can observe the beautiful swirled green and brown glazing, indicating it was likely made in the Ardèche region of France. A terrific addition to a collection of French pottery or transformed into a charming table lamp. If being used as a vase, a watertight container needs to be put inside.
