A splendid terracotta walnut oil jar of impressive size with speckled olive-green colored glaze dating from the nineteenth century. Made in the Ardèche region of France with its traditional olive green glaze and vertical ribbing down the sides meant to resemble the texture of a walnut in its shell.
Note the pretty details around the shallow neck and three half moon-shaped handles fixed horizontally around the top. A delightful addition to a collection of French antique pottery or charming transformed into a table lamp to blend the old and the new. If being used as a vase, a watertight container needs to be put inside.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
