19th century mirror w/ decorative glass frame 35½" x 30"

SKU: 14980

This stunning mirror dates from the nineteenth century. The frame is made with a technique where glass panes are installed over a painted timber frame. Note that the vertical piece on the right has a small crack. The painted decoration has a tortoiseshell effect. The inner and outer timber frames retain some fatigued gilding. Probably of Italian origin.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
Approx. overall 35½" high x 30" x 1½"
Approx. overall 90cm high x 76cm x 4cm

Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
