This tall 19th-century French oak buffet has the balanced proportions and shaped detailing associated with provincial furniture of the period. The façade is arranged with two drawers above a pair of paneled doors, centered by a carved circular rosette and framed by molded details. A scalloped apron and gently curved feet soften the substantial form. The pale celadon and blue painted finish is recent, picked out with white accents and deliberately distressed to create the appearance of an older patina. Visible age cracks to the sides and the joins between the boards of the top further enhance its rustic character.

The interior is simple and rustic, with a single broad shelf providing generous storage. The backs of the doors are lined with old wallpaper, adding an appealing trace of history. The doors close with their key: the lock works but is somewhat temperamental and should be handled gently. The drawers do not lock.
