Three vintage sage green melamine trays from the main kitchen at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter Wells’s farmhouse in Provence. Made by Les Olivades, they are printed with a petite les indiennes motif, the Provençal tradition of Indian‑inspired printed cottons that traveled from India to the south of France and became part of the region’s everyday art of living. Lightweight yet sturdy, the trio shows a smooth satin finish with rounded corners. The soft, typical‑of‑Provence green echoes the shutters at Chanteduc, a calm note that suits both kitchen and table. Scaled for service, there is one generous tray and two smaller companions. Students in Patricia’s classes used them for ingredient preparation, their mise en place. “They don’t make them anymore. There was a shop in Vaison years ago,” Patricia recalls. Put them to work corralling herbs from the garden, carrying apéritifs to the table, or organizing spices beside the stove. Practical melamine and a quiet, historic pattern make these trays as useful today as they are evocative of Patricia’s life between Paris and Provence.
