Four 1950s French kitchen towels with a red 'MG' monogram and twin vertical stripes. Unused with some age marks from storage. Note the linen color is like straw. These are wonderfully weighty and are made with rather stiff, toothy linen that will soften over time with washing and use. They will add a lovely touch of French country to any kitchen.
Monograms on French textiles date back to the Middle Ages, symbolizing ownership and prestige. Evolving over time, they became intricate designs embroidered or woven onto linens. From the Renaissance to the present day, monogrammed textiles reflect social status and artistic expression, with French artisans excelling in craftsmanship. Today, monogramming remains a cherished tradition, adding a personal touch to tea towels, napkins, tablecloths, and bed linen.
