This French ironstone jar was used for preserves. The lip at the top of the jar was for fastening a fabric cover. A potter’s stamp reads 5, there is no maker’s mark, however this is undoubtedly a piece from Creil. La faïence de Creil-Montereau is renowned for its exquisite stoneware. Light wear consistent with age and use.
