6” French ironstone preserving jar – late 19th century


This French ironstone jar was used for preserves. The wide lip at the top of the jar was for fastening a fabric cover. A maker’s mark reads ‘Digoin & Sarreguemine’. The faïence of Sarreguemine is renowned for its exquisite stoneware. Light wear consistent with age and use.

Approx. 6” diameter x 3¾” high

Approx. 15cm diameter x 9.5cm high
