This tall and graceful iron aviary dates to around 1900 and carries the romance of a small garden pavilion. Hand-wrought scrollwork crowns the pyramidal roof and accents the base, while fine wire mesh encloses a slender, architectural body finished in a softly aged cream paint. A large front door provides generous access, and a small lower hatch was designed for cleaning or slipping in food. The painted surface shows attractive weathering with areas of oxidation that contribute to its nostalgic charm. The doors remain functional, though slightly temperamental, and benefit from gentle handling.
Striking as a sculptural focal point in a garden room, sunroom, or entryway, it can be repurposed as a display for potted ferns and trailing ivy, or styled with fairy lights for a soft evening glow. Its airy form and timeworn finish lend a sense of poetry and history to both indoor and sheltered outdoor settings.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
