This large ceramic vessel presents a tall, elegant silhouette animated by spiral fluting and finished in a deep green glaze that shifts from emerald to olive. The glossy surface accentuates the undulating form, while the generous rolled rim and cylindrical body feel both sculptural and purposeful. Likely produced in the mid-20th century in Provence, it reflects a regional tradition of richly glazed earthenware made for everyday use and was probably intended as a chic umbrella stand. The condition is good, with scattered firing specks and a few small glaze chips to the rim consistent with age and use.
Placed in an entryway, it offers a welcoming pop of verdant color and a practical place to gather umbrellas or walking sticks, and it also works beautifully as a tall vase for branches. The rhythmic fluting adds movement to a room, pairing effortlessly with natural stone, warm woods, and blackened iron for a touch of Provençal warmth.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
