This tall Napoleon III-style wrought-iron and cast-iron torchère dates from the late 19th century and features beautifully worked scrollwork and floral decoration. Its three sweeping legs are embellished with curling foliage, small flowers and generous volutes, while a slender central column is wrapped with a spiraling iron vine. The height is adjustable, and the upper section terminates in a deep, urn-shaped cup decorated with acanthus leaves. A small stamped marking on the metal collar appears to indicate a patented model, although the inscription is not fully legible. The dark metal has developed a rich, timeworn patina, contrasting with the warm rusty tones of the ironwork.
Originally likely intended to support an oil lamp, it is now offered as a decorative piece. Its tall, slender proportions and elaborate ironwork make this an intriguing piece, with a lovely balance between the delicate floral details and the sturdy tripod base. The upper cup offers several possibilities for decorative use, from holding a large pillar candle to displaying potpourri or an arrangement of dried flowers.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
