This handsome brass-framed mirror hung for years in Le Marin’s ensuite, the guest room at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter Wells's farmhouse and cooking school near Vaison-la-Romaine — the kind of room where guests arrived tired from Paris and left restored by Provençal light and good food. It is exactly the sort of object that earns its place without announcement. The frame is warm, muted gold — brass that has softened beautifully with age into an honest, unrestored patina. Its distinctive arched form, with angled upper corners, gives it an almost architectural presence, while the cleanly ridged moulding along the inner and outer edges adds depth and definition without fussiness. Patricia exclaims that this is "the perfect bathroom mirror" — and it is easy to understand why. Its proportions are generous enough to be genuinely useful, its shape distinctive enough to anchor a wall, and its warm gilded tone flattering in any light. It would be equally at home above a marble-topped console in an entrance hall, leaning against a bedroom wall, or doing precisely what Patricia intended: presiding over a well-appointed bathroom with understated confidence. A piece with real provenance and real personality.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
