A generous 19th-century confit jar from southern France, hand-thrown with a classic ovoid form featuring a wide mouth and two small loop handles at the shoulders. The upper body is finished in a warm ochre glaze that fades into the raw terracotta below, where the surface shows a rich, mottled patina from age and use. The gently irregular rim and flowing glaze drips reflect its handmade origin. In honest antique condition, with minor chips and surface wear that enhance its authenticity.
Such jars were traditionally used to preserve meat in fat, forming an essential part of rural food storage practices. Now a striking decorative piece, it can be displayed alone with a liner as a rustic vase, or grouped with other rustic pottery for an authentic farmhouse vignette.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
