This grand English punch bowl, crafted by Mappin & Webb around the 1920s, is a superb example of early 20th-century silverplate design. Its generously scaled body is adorned with finely chased floral and foliate engravings, set against soft vertical fluting that flows into a bold pedestal base with a reeded design. The gently scalloped rim adds a graceful silhouette, while the lion head handles with ring pulls lend a stately, classical presence. The silverplated surface retains a rich luster, with areas of subtle copper bleed-through that hint at its age and add warmth and depth to the patina.
This substantial piece is as functional as it is decorative. It’s perfectly suited for serving punch at celebrations or holding champagne on ice, making it a sophisticated focal point at festive gatherings. It can also be repurposed as a dramatic centerpiece, filled with seasonal greenery or fruit. Whether used in service or as a display object, this punch bowl is a striking blend of English craftsmanship, elegant proportions, and timeless decorative appeal.
