A handsome French sculptor's adjustable stand dating from the late 19th century, crafted in solid beech with a tall, tapered silhouette. The revolving square top is supported by a central turned column pierced with adjustment holes, allowing the height to be altered by means of a simple peg, the original now missing and replaced with a later metal pin. Three splayed legs joined by stretchers provide excellent stability, while a circular collar reinforces the construction. The beech has developed a warm honey-brown patina with visible grain and honest workshop wear. Scattered scratches, rubbed edges, small knocks, and traces of use are consistent with its working life and contribute to its authentic antique character.
Today it makes an elegant pedestal for a sculpture, ceramic vessel, or large plant, or a distinctive lamp table beside a reading chair or sofa. Its authentic workshop character and sculptural silhouette bring an understated atelier feel to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
