A handsome antique French apothecary jar dating to the early 20th century, crafted in clear mouth-blown glass with a cylindrical body and flat base. It retains its original gilt-bordered pharmaceutical label with period lettering, complemented by a painted metal lid in deep blue with gilt bands. The transparent glass displays the subtle ripples and irregularities characteristic of traditional mouth-blown production, while the aged label and lid lend the piece a rich sense of authenticity and character. Presented in good antique condition, with light wear, toning, scuffs, and abrasions to the label and lid consistent with age and use.
Originally intended for the orderly storage of botanical, pharmaceutical, and chemical ingredients, jars of this type lined the shelves of French pharmacies and laboratories during the Belle Époque and the early decades of the 20th century. Today they are prized for their graphic appeal, elegant typography, and the striking contrast between clear glass, richly colored lids, and gilt-accented labels. Displayed on open shelving in a kitchen, study, bathroom, or cabinet of curiosities, they lend an interior a sense of scholarly elegance and quiet curiosity.
