This intriguing mouth-blown glass flask features a broad conical body, a narrow neck and a delicate side arm, giving the piece a distinctive silhouette. Originally used as a practical vessel in a laboratory, apothecary or winemaking setting, it was intended for decanting, filtering or transferring liquids. The thick glass has a light patina of surface scratches and subtle clouding from age and use, together with a small chip to the rim. It likely dates from the early 20th century.
Removed from its original utilitarian context, the flask has an unexpected decorative appeal today. It could be used as an unusual vase for a single stem or displayed as a sculptural object, either on its own or incorporated into a collection of antique scientific objects or glassware.
