A striking French cast-iron garden urn dating to the late 19th century, richly modeled with expressive lion-mask handles and a dramatic, broad undulating rim that recalls the petals of an open flower. The deeply gadrooned bowl is raised on a turned pedestal and square plinth, creating a silhouette that is both sculptural and architectural. The urn is pierced for drainage, making it perfectly suited to planting. The original suspension rings are no longer present, while the lion masks remain beautifully preserved and highly decorative.
Presented in weathered antique condition, the surface has developed a rich russet patina through decades of exposure, with stable oxidation, small losses to the plinth, and wear consistent with age, all contributing to its authenticity and character.
Whether placed as a centerpiece on an entry table or displayed on a garden plinth among clipped greenery, this urn brings a sense of permanence and quiet grandeur to its surroundings. Its beautifully aged surface and classical silhouette evoke the atmosphere of a historic French garden and country estate.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
