A refined pair of silver-plated sugar tongs by Christofle, France, in the classic lion’s paw pattern, dating to the early twentieth century. The arms are gently curved and taper to finely cast terminals modeled as stylized lion claws, a motif associated with strength and elegance in classical decorative arts. The smooth, polished surfaces contrast with the crisp detailing at the tips, creating a pleasing balance between simplicity and ornament. The surface retains a soft, luminous patina with gentle highlights and light surface scratches consistent with age and use.
Christofle, founded in Paris in 1830, became one of the leading makers of high-quality silver plate, renowned for its precision and enduring finishes. Examples of these lion paw tongs appear in Christofle production from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, prized for their sculptural character and refined workmanship.
Both practical and decorative, these tongs bring a subtle note of distinction to tea or coffee service. On a well-appointed bar cart, they can also be used as ice cube tongs. Style them alongside a vintage shaker and coupe glasses, or lay them on a linen napkin beside a silver sugar bowl to lend a touch of authentic French hospitality.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
