This very unusual cabinet / pedestal dates from the nineteenth century (possibly earlier). It was sourced in Burgundy and the home had a chapel - so our assumption is that it was built into another piece of furniture and used to display a statue or decorative object.
There are gaps at either end of the columns suggesting that it was fixed in some way - perhaps to a wall or column. The moldings on the door are very pretty, made from stucco and the overall patina is dark red / brown. The timber is a mixture of walnut and oak.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
