Antique French conscience jug - green 9¾"

This adorable, petite 'conscience' jug dates from the late nineteenth century. It has four loop handles which were used for carrying by threading through rope. Conscience jugs were used by the church for collecting olive oil from parishioners to donate to the poor. In return for their donation, the priest would bless the donor.
