Antique French Footrest with Floral Upholstery and Fringe

This late 19th-century French footrest has a simple rectangular wooden frame raised on four gently curved legs. The upholstery appears to be a later addition, but its richly patterned fabric and deep red fringe have an opulent character that suits the piece particularly well, adding visual interest to an otherwise modest form. It shows expected light wear and marks to the wooden frame and the later floral upholstery and fringe are well kept, with only minor signs of use. 

Compact and easy to place, the footrest brings pattern, texture and a richer note to an interior without taking up much space. It can sit naturally beside an armchair, at the foot of a bed or beneath a console with a stack of books. The contrast between the dark wooden frame and the more opulent floral fabric gives it a layered, collected quality that feels at home in eclectic interiors as well as more traditional settings.
