Antique French glass melon cloche - 12½"

This sizeable blown-glass bell-shaped garden cloche dates from the late nineteenth century. Made from thick glass, it was designed to act as a small greenhouse for lettuces and melons in the kitchen garden. Glass domes such as this can be transformed into spectacular light fittings when suspended upside down. There is a rough texture to the knob on top.
