An antique French bronze weight originally designed to hang from the hook of a mercantile scale. Its bell-shaped body bears hand-stamped numbers and is topped with a substantial iron suspension ring. Years of use have given the metal a wonderfully mellow patina.
Found by Patricia and Walter at a local brocante, the weight was repurposed at Chanteduc as a doorstop, strong enough to hold the farmhouse doors open against the powerful Mistral. Both sculptural and practical, it is an evocative piece of French commercial history.
