A vintage ink on paper drawing from Chanteduc, Patricia Wells’s home in Provence, this framed street scene captures the character of either Old Marseille of Old Nice. Patricia recalls, “The artist was from Marseille,” so it's possible that the street is in Marseille. Executed in encre de Chine (ink), the work balances crisp linear detail with soft washes to build depth and atmosphere. It is presented behind glass in a simple wooden frame whose warm tone flatters the time-softened paper.
Shuttered facades, balconies laced with laundry, and a narrow lane animated by daily life evoke the markets and neighborhood rhythms that shape Patricia’s world of cooking, teaching, and community. Of refined, easy-to-place scale, it brings a clear sense of place without overwhelming a room. Style it above a writing desk, alongside a shelf of cookbooks, or in a kitchen, entry, or garden room, where its measured cadence of shutters and linens will invite conversation and a relaxed Provençal mood.
Light wear.
