This early-20th-century French iron garden guéridon combines a simple round metal top with a graceful three-legged base. The slender legs curve gently outward and are joined midway by an inner circular stretcher formed from rounded iron, almost like a bracelet, an elegant detail that softens the structure. The surface has a wonderfully layered history: the present white paint has worn away in places to reveal earlier greens and reddish tones along the legs, while the top is flaked and textured, with areas of exposed metal and softly mottled discoloration creating a richly varied finish.
The lightness of the frame works beautifully with the almost painterly surface of the top. Compact and easy to place, it would work well as a small garden or terrace table, but could just as naturally be used indoors as a side table or plant stand. The accumulated layers of paint give it the relaxed character of old French garden furniture and emphasize its simple, graceful form.
