An 18th-century Louis XVI period barometer and thermometer in giltwood, featuring its original painted finish with a gracefully aged patina. The carved frame is adorned with neoclassical motifs, including a prominent ribbon crest at the top, a hallmark of the Louis XVI style. The barometer face retains its delicate hand-painted numerals, while the thermometer bears the inscription "Thermomètre de Réaumur." This refers to the Réaumur temperature scale, developed by French scientist René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur in 1730, which was widely used in France during the 18th century before being replaced by the Celsius scale. A beautifully timeworn piece with signs of age that enhance its historical charm.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
