This elegant Louis XVI-style footstool, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, has an unusually generous height and a clever adjustable design. Its rectangular seat is upholstered in softly faded rose velvet, finished with a row of decorative brass studs. The wooden frame features delicate carved details typical of the Louis XVI style: fluted, tapered legs, small floral rosettes at the corners and a twisted ribbon motif running along the apron. The warm brown wood contrasts beautifully with the muted pink upholstery. The padded top can be tilted to provide a more comfortable angle for resting the feet, thanks to a simple mechanism that remains in excellent working order.
The velvet has developed a soft, dusty color over time, with some wear and light fraying around the edges. These signs of age contribute to its gentle, romantic character. All the decorative brass studs are present, and the wooden frame shows light marks and wear consistent with age.
With its slightly taller proportions, this footstool would sit beautifully in front of a generous armchair in a library or double as an occasional side table beside a low sofa in a cozy sitting room, topped with a tray or a small stack of books.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
