Dating from the early-twentieth century, a charming antique French metal wire sardine grill. Both sides of the hinged metal frame are identical. During its original use for cooking, it is opened up and individual sardines are placed inside before resting on hot coals to cook, when flipping the basket over to grill the other side.
Most likely made from aluminum and other mixed metals. A unique item which will make a fun decorative piece to hang on a kitchen wall or as coastal décor reminiscent of the south of France. From Patricia Wells' home in Provence, she calls this charming piece "a riot!" and she has owned and used it for over forty years in her bread oven.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
