This late nineteenth-century ocher-glazed cruche pitcher similar to a confit pot has a lovely worn patina with touches of green glazing. The charming twisted handles and spout coming out one side of the pitcher and the bottom of the pot on the same side of the spout indicate lovely ware from use. With wide handles, antique cruches were used in the French countryside as a means to transport water from a village fountain to your home, specifically designed to comfortably hoist the pot atop your head. This would make a lovely decorative addition to a collection of pottery or as a charming individual piece.

Heavy wear and rustic condition consistent with age and use.
