Antique French 'olivette' olive jar from Tournac - dark green 28¼"

Dating from the nineteenth century, this 'olivette' jar was made in Tournac, designed for storing olives and olive oil. It has lovely dark green glaze that is slightly iridescent and a wonderful elongated tulip-shaped silhouette. A statement piece that can be used indoors or in the garden.

Tournon-sur-Rhône (Tournac), located along the Rhône River in the Ardèche department of southeastern France, has a longstanding tradition of pottery production. The town is particularly recognized for its "olivette" upright olive jars.
