Dating from the nineteenth century, this 'olivette' jar was made in Tournac, designed for storing olives and olive oil. It has lovely dark green glaze that is slightly iridescent and a wonderful elongated tulip-shaped silhouette. A statement piece that can be used indoors or in the garden.
Tournon-sur-Rhône (Tournac), located along the Rhône River in the Ardèche department of southeastern France, has a longstanding tradition of pottery production. The town is particularly recognized for its "olivette" upright olive jars. These terracotta jars, essential for storing and preserving olive oil, feature an upright tulip shape with a rim and are almost always glazed in dark green.
