This late nineteenth century 'orjol' was originally used as a water pitcher - note the two handles and vertical spout. Ewers like these were used for fetching water from the village fountain for domestic use. The emerald green glaze features a splash of ocher - a happy accident during the firing process. It is from south west France. A vibrant piece to add to a collection of antique French pottery.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
