A petite French table jardinière in repoussé brass, late 19th century, shaped in a graceful boat form with a scalloped rim and decorated with a central floral rosette framed by scrolling acanthus and rococo-style motifs. It stands on small curved foliate feet, and its warm brass surface shows scattered traces of old gilding and a beautifully weathered patina. Areas of oxidation, a few gentle dents, and slight rim distortion contribute to its timeworn, nostalgic charm.
Reflecting the Rococo Revival of the Second Empire and Belle Époque periods, this small centerpiece vessel shows ornament inspired by the Louis XV style and shaped through repoussé work (hammered from the reverse to raise the decoration). Pieces of this type often held a simple metal liner and served for cut flowers or small plants on a buffet or dining table.
Its petite scale suits a console, mantel, or windowsill where the gilded remnants and soft patina add texture. Line it to protect surfaces and use as a cachepot for ivy, herbs, or orchids, or fill with seasonal greens for a refined centerpiece. It also worksas sculptural catchall on a bookcase or sideboard, complementing both traditional and collected interiors.
