A handsome French country buffet in oak, dating to the late 19th century and finished in a beautifully weathered brick-red paint. The sturdy, rectilinear form features a thick plank top above two drawers and a pair of paneled cupboard doors, with matching paneled sides and simple molded detailing. Iron ring pulls, a working lock and key on the right-hand door, and a traditional interior latch securing the left-hand door speak to its practical rural origins. The later brick-red painted finish has developed a richly textured, timeworn appearance, with scattered paint losses, scratches, abrasions, and old marks that complement the buffet's rustic country character.
Built for daily life in a farmhouse interior, this buffet combines generous storage with an honest, understated presence. The warm red paint brings depth and color to a room, while the simple architectural form allows it to sit comfortably in both traditional and contemporary interiors. Equally at home in a dining room, kitchen, or entry, it brings the relaxed charm of a French country house.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
