A pair of early 20th-century horn salad servers with silver-plated mounts. The spoon and three-tined fork are carved from translucent horn in warm honey and caramel tones, fitted with finely chased silver-plated collars of rocaille and acanthus detail in the Louis XV revival style, and tapering to smooth, ovoid handles. The horn catches the light with a soft, natural glow and, at certain angles, reveals the discreet metal pin of the mounting within. The chased mounts reflect the light beautifully, adding a touch of sparkle.
Horn salad servers were favored in the early 20th century for their non-reactive qualities with dressed salads, making them a practical complement to silver at the table.
Perfect for an inviting Provençal table, this pair sits beautifully alongside antique faïence, crisp linens, and a simple olivewood board. Both functional and decorative, this pair is ideal for serving seasonal greens or displaying in a glass jar, where their warm tones and natural variation add character to the kitchen.
