A small early 20th-century French silver-plated milk jug, engraved in flowing script “Hôtel du Midi, Avignon.” Made for hotel service, it has a gently tapered body, rolled rim, pronounced pouring lip, and an elegant loop handle. Its 42 cl capacity makes it slightly more substantial than an individual creamer. The surface has developed a particularly attractive patina, with soft silver, blue, and warm golden tones across the metal. It could be polished to a brighter finish if desired, though the present patina gives the piece a particularly evocative, atmospheric quality.
Silver-plated hotelware was often engraved with the establishment’s name, making each piece a small record of French hospitality. The Hôtel du Midi, Avignon inscription gives this jug an evocative sense of place, while its versatile scale makes it equally charming as a creamer, spoon holder, or small vase.
