This superb green 'cruche' or water pitcher is from the Vallée de l'Huveaune and dates from the nineteenth-century. Traditionally women carried these on their heads to fetch water from the village fountain for cooking, bathing and cleaning. A lovely piece to display with a collection of antique French pottery.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
