The intimate Provencal village scene centers on a stone footbridge over a narrow stream with houses rising behind. Patricia explains, “The footbridge would have been used by children walking to school, while the women did their laundry nearby. Part of me thinks, thank God that’s not me! I love the simple architecture.” Hung for decades in Le Marin, translated as The Sailor, it reflects her eye for intelligent simplicity and everyday craft, the same values that inform her cooking, teaching, and hospitality. Executed in watercolor on paper, the palette is soft earth and faded green with russet rooflines, the touch quick and observant. It is presented in a black painted wooden frame with a narrow gilt liner and layered cream mat behind glass.
